What is a domain name (or URL)?
March 8th, 2009
The Internet is filled with way too many technical terms and other high-tech jargon. It’s no wonder, then, that newbies get confused.
So it’s time to roll up my sleeves and begin to clear up some of the Internet jargon that baffles – rightfully so – the countless newcomers (and even the veterans) who are making their way through the World Wide Web.
In this post you’ll learn about:
- What is a domain name?
- What is a web address?
- What is a URL?
- What is the meaning of URL?
What is a domain name / web address / URL?
Guess what, they are all the same!
That’s right.
A domain name, a web address (or website address), and a URL all mean the same thing. And that thing is the “www.some-website-name.com” part of a website or blog.
Most people have heard of a website address or web address. They are general terms that more easily describe the technical terms of domain name and URL.
What is the meaning of URL?
URL stands for:
Uniform
Resource
Locator
And as stated above, it has the same meaning as domain name, web address, or website address.
